Let's take on a challenge together!

Our September Sustainability Chat revolved around Climate Action! If you missed the live event, you can scroll to the end of this blog to watch the video playback.

During the event, Casey gave an overview of the most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report and highlighted a few upcoming local events to hopefully inspire you to take on joyful sustainability work.

We also introduced the NEW Drawdown Challenge happening in October PLUS broke down how you can join our team for free! The event runs online from October 4-25 and is free and open to everyone.

We are building on the success of the inaugural Green Goose Chase, held in April, 2020, that engaged participants from across the country in a week-long sustainability-themed scavenger hunt. “We learned from the Green Goose Chase that our community appreciates events that help them take action—and maybe even laugh and play a bit-- to create a more positive future,” said Casey Meehan of the Sustainability Institute. “The 2021 Drawdown Challenge follows in the same spirit. It really meshes well with our mission to inspire and celebrate sustainability in our region.”

Created by EcoChallenge.org, the Drawdown Challenge is a solutions-oriented engagement program focused on reducing carbon in the atmosphere. The actions within this challenge connect to solutions to global warming that already exist. Participants join the Sustainability Institute team, choose actions that align with their values, complete those actions, and track and share their progress using the online platform. When they check off their completed actions, they earn points and see the real-time impact of their actions. The combination of collective action, camaraderie, and friendly competition makes change a little easier — and a lot more fun.

Finally, we had the official announcement of our 2021 Inspiring Sustainability Award NOMINEES! We want to congratulate all of our nominees and thank them for their hard work and dedication to inspiring sustainability in our region. The two winners will be announced LIVE at our virtual Inspiring Sustainability Awards ceremony on October 28th. Make sure to RSVP and join us!
