Our last Sustainability Chat of 2023 focused around the efforts and resources of La Crosse Area Waters - a collective of 10 local communities who are pooling resources to provide outreach and education about stormwater runoff.
Amy Smith, a representative of La Crosse Area Waters and Sustainability Director of Habitat for Humanity of the greater La Crosse Region, shared how community members and private businesses can implement ways to capture stormwater to help prevent pollution from runoff.
We also heard from the 2023 Soak It Up Winner - 360 Real Estate's, The Hub on 6th. This downtown property implements multiple best management practices that keep polluted runoff out of local waterways.
The La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group is taking on the challenge of slowing down the rush of rain and snowmelt that pollutes waterways and affects aquatic organisms. They are working together to educate private property owners, about what runoff is, why it's bad, and how to fix it.
