SUSTAINABILITY INSTITUTE BOARD MEMBER
Key Roles & Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

Guiding the Mission

Sustainability Institute (SI) Board Members are stewards of SI’s mission—providing leadership in its development and ensuring the policies of the organization reflect its values and goals. They work closely with the Executive Director as a trusted partner helping shape strategy and track progress. Whether evaluating performance, participating in strategic planning, or helping select new board members, a Board Member’s role ensures SI remains rooted in purpose and propelled by impact.

ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT

Stewarding with Care

Good governance is both a responsibility and a privilege. Board Members at SI maintain a strong fiduciary role—reviewing financials, approving budgets, and offering oversight to ensure that the organization meets legal and ethical standards. They help evaluate the Executive Director’s performance and provide feedback. Board Members may take on task forces, serve on committees, or partner with fellow board members to turn ideas into executable plans.

FUNDRAISING & COMMUNICATIONS

Connecting with People & Resources

Board Members play a vital role in telling SI’s story. Through conversations with community members, stakeholders, and potential supporters, they help raise awareness about SI’s mission—and why it matters. Board Members are expected to make SI a philanthropic priority and contribute annually in a way that’s meaningful to them. Beyond giving, SI Board Members open doors: bringing in new members, sponsors, and participants. Whether recruiting fresh voices to the board, promoting events, or building strategic partnerships, a board member’s role is to help SI grow in influence, connection, and sustainability.
